Today I’m very pleased (and also a bit nervous) to be sharing my first beauty post with you. I have always loved make-up, so I thought it would be great to do a beauty post once a month to share that side of myself. I tend to go through phases with make-up; sometimes I go without it for months on end, and sometimes I wear it most days, even making an effort to try new colors and switch up my look. I never used to take the time for lipstick or gloss because I thought it just wears off so quickly, why bother? However, lately it’s become one of my favorite things. I’ve realized that on days I don’t want to take the time to apply full-faced make-up I can swipe some color on my lips and it’s a quick and easy way to brighten things up a bit. Today I’d like to share my three go-to lip colors this Summer: a NARS lipstick, a Julie Hewitt lip/cheek color, and a Sally Hansen lip moisture and tint.
This NARS lipstick (shade: Pigalle), was actually a hand-me-down from my mother. She and I have very similar coloring as well as taste, but I think she felt this one was a bit dark. And although it is close in tone to my natural lip color, it is fairly dark. I mediate this by simply blotting it onto my lips rather than swiping it across. The finished look is undoubtedly more dramatic than going natural but still light enough for day-wear. In fact, this is a great look for transitioning from day to night.
This lovely Julie Hewitt Cheekie color in “Peachie” (pictured below) has become a staple in my Summer beauty collection, my sister Kate gave this to me. I have yet to try it as a cheek color, but I think it would work well with my fair skin tone. My grandmother has always loved wearing coral colored lipstick, and growing up I remained a little averse to the idea because I didn’t want to go too bright. These days I’m a big fan of bright, especially when it comes to lip color. Not to mention the fact that my favorite color is orange and by proxy, coral, so I’ve finally come around.
This is a favorite of mine on no make-up days. A little lip color goes a long way. Who really needs foundation and eye make-up anyway? (Especially if you’re a fan of the snooze button, like I am)
Last, but not least, my favorite pink lip color this Summer. I have been seeing so many cute pink lip shades on Pinterest, and I finally found my very own perfect pink, at Target. I usually shop Target for household essentials and I love browsing the beauty aisles, even if I don’t need anything. This one caught my eye because it’s a color and lip balm combination. I tend to put down some chapstick under any lip color just because my skin is always SO dry. This Sally Hansen “Colorfast” turned out to be one of my favorite-ever beauty products.
I love pink. I’ve even been known to rock pink eye-shadow from time to time (I think it’s a nice contrast for blue eyes). Anyway, this lip balm/tint combo is simple, quick, and totally worth it!
What are your favorite lip colors? Have you ever tried something daring like green or blue?
